Tamako Cycling Road
Oct. 22nd, 2018 01:08 amThe weather was nice, it finally stopped raining, and I decided to go somewhere for a hike... but I slept late as usual, so the only remaining option was a bicycle trip to Tama Lake in Tokyo, that's about 3 hours of biking in the western direction from my house. Also it was a chance to ride the famous Tamako Cycling Road - the only proper cycling road in Tokyo that is actually separated from the traffic.
It started like this

Then I briefly stopped to take pictures of some interesting greenhouses.

A mixed bicycle-pedestrian bridge across Karabori River. It's a shallow river, but the water was surprisingly clean, I've seen some very dirty rivers in the city centre.

Finally I reached Tama Lake that serves as a water reservoir for Tokyo. Tamako Cycling Road completely surrounds both Tama and Sayama lakes, the long and winding road.

This is how the bike path looked like most of the time.

Abandoned building overgrown with vegetation.

Sayama Park alongside the Tama Lake was green and spacious, many people were riding their bikes and walking their dogs.
