Last Saturday I woke up early in the morning and went for a wonderful hiking trip to Mt. Myojingatake in Hakone with my LJ/Twitter friend. This was my first ever trip to this area since I mostly hiked in Okutama before. And it was surprisingly interesting with lots of different terrains on the way!

It started as a leisurely stroll on an asphalt road, but then the surroundings quickly changed into something much more interesting. The forest trail was challenging at times, but never boring. At one time we even had to cross the river by walking on the stones because there was virtually no bridge. There were spiderwebs and it pretty much looked like that particular trail was relatively unknown to the wider public since we met only a few hikers, as well as two guys on the mountain bikes.

The weather was hot and humid (because Japan is in the midst of the rainy season), but the air was clean, filled with the refreshing scent of cedar trees, and a real pleasure to breathe (unlike in Tokyo where it smells like gasoline). We even camped on the ridge a little and I ate my instant noodles with curry while watching the ants crawling on me ^^ Then we visited a local Buddhist temple on our way back to the station, where we found many traditional Jizo statues. It was a really good trip and I really want to repeat it someday in the future when the rain stops and the sky clears!
